The Voladores de Papantla, also known as the Papantla Flyers, is a traditional ceremony and dance performed by the Totonac people of Mexico. The ceremony is considered an important cultural and spiritual tradition for the Totonac people and has been passed down through generations. The ceremony begins with the construction of the volador, a tall pole made from a tree trunk. Once the pole is erected, the voladores, or dancers, begin to climb to the top while playing music and singing. Once at the top, the men tie themselves to the pole and begin to spin while descending to the ground, creating a mesmerizing aerial display. The ceremony is meant to honor the gods and bring good luck and fertility to the community.
