José Manuel López held his first training session for Palmeiras this Sunday, at the College of Football. Announced last week as an addition, the Argentine striker is already working with other players in the squad.
Along with Uruguay’s Merentiel, López will have to wait until July 18, the opening date of the transfer window in Brazil, to play for Palmeiras for the first time. Both have come from the top 16 of the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores.
– I want to play, I’m worried, but this time it can be used to get used to the city, to my teammates, to the club, and also to physical fitness. I spent a few days without exercise, without playing – said the striker.

At the age of 21, López becomes another option for coach Abel Ferreira in the offensive industry. The coach has been questioning the option of an offensive order, which now counts, along with the Argentine, Rafael Navarro and Merentiel of Uruguay. Ron has been acting unexpectedly in that role all this season.

López had been with the Palmeiras board since the start of the season, but talks with the Argentine club have intensified in recent weeks. In an announcement about the transfer, Lanus said they had discussed 70% of the player’s economic rights, setting 30%.
López’s arrival should prompt coach Abel Ferreira to promote a turn-off between visitors in legitimate games for the Copa do Brasil and Brasileirão. CBF only allows the use of five non-Brazilian players per match. Palmeiras now has six, namely: Piquerez, Gustavo Gómez, Atuesta, Kuscevic, Merentiel and López.
– As soon as I heard about Palmeiras’ interest, I really wanted to come. It’s the biggest club in the United States, in Brazil, fighting for trophies all the time, and that’s what I wanted for my football career. I am so happy to be here. Everything is very well planned, the structure here is top notch, it will help increase my level. For the Palmeiras Family, I can say that I am very happy to be here and will fight to the end in every match – said López.
