The Catholic Church’s internal collection available through NFT, a digital record of authenticity and unique value, and the Vatican door on the metaverse so that people can access these materials. This is the stakes of Sensorium technology company that announced the news this week.
According to a press release, the company, which specializes in creating metaverses, has partnered with Humanity 2.0, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Vatican.
The plan was announced last Monday (2). However, it has not yet been officially confirmed by the Catholic Church. This is what we know (and do not know) about that point so far.
What does the project say?
The idea is to put in a digital warehouse, in 3D, materials such as documents, paintings and professional programs that belong to the Vatican, according to the solution statement.
The digital version of these works will be displayed in NFT format, authentic files recorded in blockchain transactions and data storage technology, a network that stores confidential funds like Bitcoin.
Interaction with the function will be through transformation, accessed through headphones embedded in the head and virtual reality, by computer or mobile phone. The system can even allow visitors to create email avatars to discover digital content.
The Vatican owns a heritage of great historical value. In his collection there are names like Michelangelo, Raphael, Marc ChagallSalvador Dali, Paul Gauguin, Wassily Kandinsky, Vincent car gogo by Pablo Picasso.
“We look forward to working with the Sensorium to explore the ways of art democracy, making it more accessible to people around the world, regardless of their social and geographical barriers,” said Father Philip Larrey, President of Humanity 2.0.
What it is sensorium?
Created in 2018, Sensorium is a developer of virtual mail and flexible software.
In its portfolio, according to the company, there are references to real performances by artists such as David Guetta, Armin van Buuren and Steve Aoki. And even participatory games that feature trophies from Jay-Z and The Night League.
Na humanity 2.0?
Foreign media websites tried for several days to confirm Humanity 2.0’s relationship with the Vatican and to get more information about the announced partnership. Lack of response led to mistrust.
He tried an interview with Father Philip larreyspokesman for humanity 2.0 were also developed. It’s nothing.
Vice says an interview was given before the announcement, but later the conversation was canceled. A few days later, the report received the following response from the Sensorium: “Humanity 2.0. Is a Vatican-affiliated organization.”
The Futurism website also reported similar difficulties in communication.
There is no mention of the Catholic Church’s digital preservation project on Humanity 2.0 website.
One of the concerns when talking about NFT is the risk of fraud in the market – especially with hackers. For this reason, the secrecy surrounding the deal is alarming, says the Futurism website.
Statement issued on behalf of the Father larrey it simply states that the Sensorium Galaxy email platform is in the pilot phase and that it should be launched later this year. But it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
To date, the Catholic Church has not taken any action to confirm or deny its involvement in the project.
